| The barrel provide a welcomed distraction and a
safe place in the middle of the arena. The barrel is often though
of as a part of a funny act, but in reality , it is a protection
device for the
crowns and the Bullrider. The "Barrelman" is the safety value for
the other clowns. He the eyes that can see everything and warns
the other clowns and provides jokes to the crowd. |

| One of the responsibilities of the clown is to
aid the Bullrider by increasing the difficulty of the ride. A
spinning bull will usually rate more points. If you notice the
clown is trying to get the bull to spin in the same direction as
the Bullrider's hand in the rode. This spin "into his hand" is
easier to ride than the bull spinning "away from his hand". |

| The main reason for a rodeo clown is to protect
the Bullrider. The rider in this case his leg coming over his
arm and is surely going to the "hug up" and in a bad way. The
clown will put his life on the line and jump on the bull to free
the rider while the Bullfighter clown keeps the attention of the
bull. |

| There are three types of rodeo clowns and they
each have a special talent and responsibility. In the picture
the clown in the bull fighter, his responsibility is to get the
bull attention on himself not the Bullrider. |
